After discussing the basic information about a concern, OIEC analyzes the incident to determine if a formalÌýorÌýadaptable resolution process is most appropriate. Generally, it is the decision of the complainant (person subjected to misconduct) to move forward or not.Ìý
If the complainantÌýchooses not to engage with any resolution process, OIEC must weigh that decision against the university’s obligation to protect the community.ÌýIn rare cases, OIEC may be obligated to take actionÌýregardless of a complainant’s wishes, to ensure campus safety. However, the complainant is not required to participate in or cooperate with a resolution process.
There is no time limit for addressing a complaint under university policy. Whether the individualÌýparticipates inÌýa resolution process, documentation is maintained, support and safety measures are discussed, and confidential resources are offered.
