Two CU «Ƶ faculty members will share their success stories—and their processes—for applying for—and being awarded—the NEH Fellowship:

This virtual program is designed to inspire faculty who are interested in applying for a fellowship. We celebrate these successful faculty and learn from their experiences applying for fellowships. What strategies did they use? Did they apply to more than one opportunity? How did they reuse, repurpose, and recycle proposals? Join us and learn their paths to successful winning proposals.
This event is RIO’s launch of RIO NEH Fellowships Peer Editing Program. From January through early April, participants will draft proposals and participate in one peer editing workshop (2-5 faculty max per group) to hone the narrative portion of their NEH Fellowship applications before the NEH April 9, 2025 deadline.

- Attend the January 29 NEH Fellowship Categories & Requirements 1-hour webinar

- Prepare a draft narrative for review by committed colleagues by early to mid-March
- Peer review 1-4 proposals
- Attend one peer review workshop in early- to mid-March (TBD by faculty)

Strengthen Your Grant Proposal for CO-WY NSF Engine Funding
Join us on Friday, January 24, 2025, 9 AM-12 PM MST at CU «Ƶ (remote options available) for an interactive session to refine proposals for the Engine's $2.5M second RFP. Collaborate with partners, explore synergies, and build connections to advance climate innovation in Complex Earth Sensing, Wildfire Prediction, Water Quality, and Soil Health. Open to all Engine partners, including universities, startups, and national labs. Don’t miss this chance to create impactful proposals.

Participants will learn the definition and categories of broader impacts, understand the multi-disciplinarity of broader impacts, and understand how they, their field, their capacity and societal needs help frame their Broader Impacts Identity. Laying this foundation will better position participants in securing grants and awards and with achieving their broader impacts plans.

Led by Research & Innovation Office Proposal Writer/Editor Diane Carillo, this program is designed to support your proposal development from start to finish through individual/one-on-one writing and proposal development coaching, optional peer writing groups, red team reviews, and proposal draft reviews. Participants will learn the ins and outs of writing a competitive NSF CAREER proposal with the goal of submitting a strong proposal by the deadline.

Facilitated by Donna Axel, faculty participate in one small group of 2-5. This virtual workshop will provide space to discuss each faculty's draft. In advance of the workshop, faculty will exchange drafts to consider potential improvements using the NEH categories and requirements. Then, during the peer review workshop, faculty will share their comments and ideas. Day/time TBD by faculty.

The goal of this workshop is a continuation of developing a Broader Impacts Plan.
Participants will learn about establishing partnerships to reach their intended audience and how to actualize their broader impacts plans effectively with their intended audience. Participants will learn to utilize valuable resources like the ARIS toolkit and gain insight into the guiding principles and evaluation criteria set by the National Science Foundation. Participants will engage in foundational activities for developing a project budget, for creating goals and for evaluating the results of the broader impacts project. We will also review evaluation tool options, an assessment rubric, and connect PIs with resources for successful planning. Laying this foundation will better position participants with securing grants and awards and achieving their broader impacts plans.

This session will provide a deeper dive into effective research “with” and “by” communities building off the Spring 2024 workshop with Dr. Leilah Lyons, an NSF Program Director of the Division of Research on Learning in Formal and Informal Settings (DRL) Program. Increasing participants’ capacity to center and develop authentic partnerships with communities is the focus of this workshop.
This workshop will address ways to refrain from common transactional practices that perpetuate tokenism and exploitation of communities when engaging with them for research purposes. Developing and fostering mutual beneficial partnerships is the focus of this workshop.
