Graduate Programs
Ranked as a top graduate program in the nation by the National Research Council, the Department of Spanish and Portuguese offers an MA degree In Spanish with emphasis/track in Peninsular and Latin American Literature or Hispanic Linguistics. It also offers a PhD degree in Spanish with an emphais/track in Peninsular and Latin American Literature or Medieval and Early Modern Hispanic Literatures.
All students are eligible for graduate teaching assistantships.These appointments include a monthly stipend, tuition remission, and cover all student health insurance premiums. Grants and fellowships (summer, research, travel) are also available by application.
Our graduates have secured excellent jobs as teachers and researchers. Recent PhD graduates hold tenure-track jobs at schools such as Dartmouth, Middlebury, Carnegie Mellon, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, University of San Diego, Lehigh University, West Point Military Academy, the University of Texas at Austin, Colorado College, and Temple University.
