Dance Scholarships
The Dance Program Freshman Scholarship Fund
We have several partial 4-year scholarships that will be awarded to incoming freshman. All prospective students who apply to CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and indicate Dance as their primary major will be sent a link to apply for this scholarship after their general application to CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is received.
The James & Anne de Castro Dance Scholarship Fund
Designed to provide scholarships to current undergraduate students in dance based on talent in performance and/or choreography, professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication to the department. The award amount is typically $1,000.
The Charlotte York Irey Fund
Created by the dance faculty in 1992, in honor of Charlotte York Irey, who created the dance program and was its Director until her retirement in 1988. The Irey Scholarship is chosen by faculty and awarded to graduate students who are talented in performance, choreography and teaching, and who have shown dedication to the dance program and the arts.
Noel & Terry Hefty of the Messing Family Charitable Foundation
Designed to support recruitment and retention, this prestigious scholarship is awarded to a talented incoming freshman. This award is given in the amount of $3,000 - $5,000 a year for four years, as long as the student remains a dance major at CU. This scholarship is based on merit and decided by the faculty at the BFA auditions or during the first week of class placements in the fall. A new Scholarship designee will be selected every four years.
The Katherine J. Lamont Scholarship
Established to benefit full time students in the humanities and is chosen by faculty on a biannual basis.
The Gail Pokoik Scholarship
Award recipient is chosen by faculty and awarded to graduate students based on talent in performance, choreography, professionalism, enthusiasm and dedication to the dance program and the arts.
The Jamie Kellam Redmond Scholarship
Awarded annually to a student majoring in dance, in honor of Jamie Kellam Redmond who was the first dance major at CU. The Redmond award recipient is chosen by faculty based on talent in performance, choreography, professionalism, enthusiasm, and dedication to the dance program and the arts. The award amount is typically $2,500 – $3,500.
Talent & Creativity Scholarships
Awarded to undergraduate majors in both theatre and dance on an annual basis by application. The dance department awards this scholarship to multiple students based on the amount of service and evidence of involvement in the dance program. Award amounts vary but typically range between $250 – $1,500.

Graduate Research in Dance (GRID) Fund
Provides support for graduate students who are pursuing master of fine arts degrees in dance. The Fund will provide flexible resources for advancing strategic initiatives to support creative and scholarly research. Support from the Fund may include, but is not limited to, graduate student research, project-related expenses, professional development and/or scholarship support.
