A University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ space shuttle payload designed primarily by students to analyze the gentle collisions of dust particles in space may shed new light on the sources of dust in planetary rings.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ seismologist Roger Bilham, who appears in the popular IMAX movie "Everest," will give a free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. April 20 at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Public Library Auditorium. A multi-media presentation of computer graphics, pictures and film will be shown while Bilham lectures about the building of the Himalayas and the high risk of catastrophic earthquakes in the region. A question-and-answer session will follow.

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will be featured the week of April 13 in the "On-Campus" section of the Science Coalition web site, a comprehensive resource for information on federally funded research.

Emergency warning sirens and public address systems will be tested in the City of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and on the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus Monday, April 6, at 10 a.m., in a joint effort by CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ City-County Office of Emergency Management. Outdoor sirens will sound for two minutes followed by a voice announcement stating, "This is a warning system test." No action or response is necessary during this exercise.

Tuesday, April 7, will be a lucky day for the students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. ItÂ’s the day KCNC-Channel 4 in Denver will deliver equipment worth a half-million dollars to the school. NEWS 4 is placing six cameras with lenses and recorders and 11 editing decks on permanent loan to the journalism school in Macky Auditorium.

The CU Moving Company, a group of undergraduate and graduate dance majors at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ who tour Colorado educating and entertaining school-age kids, will visit three ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ-Denver area schools in April. The 13-member CU Moving Company will present its combination class-performances at Niwot High School on April 7, Gold Hill Elementary School on April 14 and at the Denver School of the Arts on April 21.

A team led by the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ has found new evidence that a faint, doughnut-shaped ring of interplanetary and interstellar dust some 700,000 miles in diameter is orbiting Jupiter.

Construction of a new humanities building at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will be launched with groundbreaking ceremonies Thursday, April 2, on the campusÂ’ historic Norlin Quadrangle. The building, which will house classrooms and several humanities departments, is the first fully state-funded humanities facility at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ since the Hellems Building was completed in 1921, according to Chancellor Richard L. Byyny. Most campus buildings have been built with a combination of funding sources, such as revenue bonds, private donations and other sources.

The Graduate School of Business Association at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is hosting its 6th annual Barney Ford Benefit to raise money for scholarships that will build a more diverse student population. This yearÂ’s event will be a beer tasting and silent auction at Trios Grille and Wine Bar in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ at Canyon Boulevard and Broadway from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, April 9. Tickets, which are available at the door, are $25 per person. All proceeds go to the Barney Ford Scholarship Fund.

Over 2,000 American Indians and First Nation Peoples from more than 30 tribes in the United States and Canada will rendezvous at the University of Colorado Events Center in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ on April 4-5 for the second annual Red Nations Cultural Unity Celebration Contest Pow-wow. A pow-wow is a cultural celebration featuring native speakers, performers, writers and artists. This yearÂ’s event is sponsored by the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ American Indian Student Organization Oyate (pronounced O-ya-tay). There are 164 American Indian students enrolled on the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus.
