CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Terminates Fraternity Lease For Violations

The University of Colorado has terminated a lease agreement with the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity for a house at 1505 University Ave., due to numerous lease violations by the group. The building was offered by the university as temporary housing for the fraternity after the membersÂ’ permanent house burned in September 1996. Original plans called for the fraternity to move out of the temporary quarters in January 1997, when the university was scheduled to begin renovating the space for its Continuing Education program.

CU Wizard Show April 26 To Feature Light

Learning how light is created and destroyed will be the subject of the CU Wizard show titled “Light, Lifesavers and Fireflies” on Saturday, April 26, presented by CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ chemistry Assistant Professor Kathy Rowlen. “We will explore everything from fireflies to fireworks,” said Rowlen, who will present the show at 9:30 a.m. in room 140 of the Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry Building next to the University Memorial Center Fountain Court.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Names Anne Tolbert To Acting Controller Position

Anne Tolbert has been named acting controller at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, pending approval by the Board of Regents. Tolbert has worked at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ in various capacities since 1981, most recently as manager of plant fund accounting and payroll accounting. Her salary will be $73,000 and she is expected to assume the duties of controller on April 25, if the appointment is approved.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Science Discovery Hosts Wizard Show and Square Dance

The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s Science Discovery program will host a night of family entertainment featuring a CU Wizard Show and a Square Dance Extravaganza from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 19 at the First Congregational Church of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Proceeds from the event will benefit Science Discovery, an outreach program of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ that offers science presentations to young people through field trips, workshops, wilderness camps and other programs.

Five finalists for dean of the School of Education at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will begin campus visits on Sunday, April 13. Leading Planetary Expert To Speak On Search For Life Beyond Earth

Edward C. Stone, director of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., and internationally known planetary scientist, will lecture at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ April 15 in a talk titled “The Search for Life Elsewhere.” Stone has served as the project scientist for NASAÂ’s Voyager mission since 1972 and coordinated the efforts of 11 teams of scientists in their studies of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. As the lead U.S. center for the robotic exploration of the solar system, JPL is managed for NASA by the California Institute of Technology.

Campus Visits Announced For Chancellor Finalists

BOULDER -- The two finalists for the position of chancellor of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ have confirmed official visits to the campus next week. Dr. John Moseley, vice president for academic affairs and provost at the University of Oregon, and Dr. Richard Byyny, interim chancellor of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, will visit the campus beginning with Moseley on Monday, April 14 (through Wednesday, April 16) and concluding with Byyny on Thursday, April 17 (through Friday, April 18).

Students Played Pivotal Role In Development of ITLL Building

A description of how CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s Integrated Teaching and Learning Laboratory was developed might read a little like the Gettysburg Address with the addition of the word student: of the students, by the students and for the students. The three-story, 34,000 square foot laboratory is intended primarily for use by undergraduate engineering students and this semester is being used for freshmen, sophomore and junior courses.
