About the program

The Master of Arts in Management with an emphasis in Social and Sustainable Management at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is a 12-month immersion into the basics of business and leadership. This MA program track offers you a Christian understanding of business, ethics, responsibility, and sustainability — stewardship of people, planet, and profits — while providing professional and career development activities.

This program enables recent graduates with liberal arts, science, or engineering degrees and no significant work experience to develop the core business and professional knowledge and skills that business, NGO, and nonprofit organizations highly value — the skills needed to jump-start entry into business or social entrepreneurship. Most importantly, this program helps you translate your passion for service and stewardship into action.

The MAM-SSM track uses an innovative modular curriculum. Your learning is accomplished together with a select cohort through challenging, hands-on, real-world problem-solving, as well as projects and connections with business and social enterprise community partners. You will experience a mix of classroom, independent, team, online learning, a study abroad experience, and a cooperative learning/internship.

Seattle Pacific's School of Business, Government, and Economics (SBGE) is committed to providing an applied, experiential, and collaborative learning environment in which business and Christian faith, ethics, and character are integrated. The objectives of the Social and Sustainable Management track enables you to participate in creating sustainable value and responsible businesses that contribute to human flourishing as principled business professionals or social entrepreneurs.

You will develop:

• An integrated, cross-functional understanding of business as a system with fluency in fundamental business concepts and processes across the range of business disciplines.
• A Christian understanding of responsible, ethical, and sustainable business that serves customers, employees, and the community and cares for creation.
• Ability to apply these understandings to complex, real business situations in pursuit of human flourishing.
• The attitudes, commitments, skills, and knowledge necessary for entering business as responsible professionals who are:
• Capable of developing effective business relationships, and working and communicating with others.
• Capable of initiating and organizing business activities and projects.
• Capable of behaving as business professionals in business contexts.

Curriculum

The MAM-SSM program is comprised of five integrated modules organized around the business decision-making process: analysis, planning and design, operations, and renewal.

The themes of business fundamentals, responsibility and sustainability, and professional skill development are woven throughout the program. You learn through challenging, hands-on, real-world problem-solving, cases and projects, connections with business and social enterprise community partners and a mix of classroom, independent, team, online learning, a study abroad experience, and a cooperative learning/internship experience.

Admission requirements

Admission to the MAM-SSM program is selective and depends on the recommendation of the faculty and approval from the associate dean for graduate studies in the School of Business, Government, and Economics.

Phone interviews are held with candidates who pass the initial screening of application materials. If you pass the interview, you are either admitted or placed on a reserve list. Admission to the cohort occurs in rounds and remains open until classes begin, depending on space available. Early Action applications are due by January 15.

To be admitted to the MAM-SSM program, you must have the following:

• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, completed by June 15.
• Strong academic, reasoning, quantitative, verbal, and writing abilities indicated by your cumulative undergraduate GPA, and achievement in a college-level math course. GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) or GRE (Graduate Record Examination) scores are not required for applicants demonstrating strong alignment with the program’s goals and who have at least a 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA. (Applicants who do not meet the minimum will be asked to submit either GRE or GMAT scores as supplemental evidence of readiness for graduate study.)
• Passion and clear personal direction that align with the program’s purpose and goals, as indicated by essay responses.
• Ability to learn effectively through the program’s approach to learning, including learning and working independently and in teams, indicated by your past academic work and responses to essay and interview questions.
• Résumé and essay responses indicating relevant extra-curricular experiences (work experience is not required).

Applicants must submit all of the following:

• Official transcript(s) from undergraduate colleges or universities attended. If you’re still in school, you must submit a current transcript to be followed by a final, official transcript after graduation.
• Responses to the essay questions in the application. These responses weigh heavily in consideration of your application.

International student applicants

Applicants whose native language is not English must also submit:

• Scores on the . Scores above 92 on the iBT version are preferred. (Note: PTE, TOEIC, or IELTS scores may be submitted in substitution). Applicants who have completed all of their undergraduate studies at an English-speaking college or university are exempt from the TOEFL requirement.
• English translation of an evaluation of any non-U.S. undergraduate transcript (course-by-course) by a professional credential evaluation service such as: or . In addition to the evaluation report, all official transcripts must be submitted (in English). The applicant is responsible for all costs associated with this service.
• Applicants who would be attending on F-1 Visa status must also submit an official financial statement reflecting financial support equivalent to the costs of the year of graduate study. Complete the Declaration of International Student Finances form (PDF) and send it to the address listed on the form, along with an original bank statement and copy of your passport (front and back).

Application deadlines
