Contact Electrical Engineering
Ben Hughes, Electrical Engineer
The campus electrical engineer verifies that campus and national electrical code standards are met throughout all CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ buildings and facilities. As an Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), the engineer reviews design plans to make sure that they meet electrical codes, works closely with HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) engineers, and provides technical support to the campus electrical shop and faculty and staff.
A university campus presents particular electrical challenges, such as research labs that must have power 24/7 and a need for comprehensive outdoor lighting that provides safety and security. At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, where sustainability is a high priority, electrical engineering plays a critical role. The campus maintains energy-efficient lighting both indoors and outdoors and uses lighting controls to provide the right amount of light when and where it is needed.
