Team

Alexis Templeton is the Principal Investigator of the Rock Powered Life NAI team. She leads an interdisciplinary team that intertwines the interests, expertise, and activities of 12 excellent investigators and associated students, postdocs, research scientists, and core collaborators with expertise in microbial biology, ecology, geochemistry, and geophyscis. This team has come together to address the challenging Astrobiological question of defining how, when, and where geological systems power biological processes. The RPL NAI is particularly focused on energy production and consumption within the environmental conditions where rocks and water react at low temperatures, since this is a critical and understudied regime in any efforts to consider the biological potential in the shallow crust of Earth, Mars, and icy satellites such as Europa and Enceladus.
