Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the MSE Program at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ
The mission of the Material Science & Engineering (MSE) Program at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is to build a diverse community that experiences an inclusive learning and working environment, and collectively implements equitable and evidence-based practices in education and employment. Our program prioritizes interdisciplinary research across the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the College of Arts and Sciences.
We believe sustaining science and engineering requires diverse perspectives and experiences from students, faculty and staff. We strive to actively encourage and celebrate all identities, and are committed to access, advancement, and retention of all members of the community.
To advance our mission, the Material Science & Engineering Program is committed to:
- Implementing system-wide changes that include achieving equitable outcomes, cultural humility and cultural competence among all of our faculty, students, and staff.
- Instituting a requirement that all applicants applying for faculty or staff positions or to the graduate program must include a statement on diversity.
- Accelerating our adoption of holistic graduate application review. We will consider all aspects of a student’s record and potential, including diversity of experiences, skills, and academic background.
- Proactively pursue inclusive and equitable practices, such as curriculum and program review and enhancement, that elevate the relevance for our students and provide a path for the program’s continued impact on society.
