CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Choirs

Welcome to choirs at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ College of Music! Our choral ensembles perform works from all style periods as well as works by underrepresented composers.

CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ choral studies, founded in 1938 by Warner Imig, was the first formal area of study in the College of Music. The department continues to mentor great students from across the university, while preparing and performing everything from new works to jazz to traditional masterworks through regular collaborations with the CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Wind Symphony, the CU Symphony and the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Philharmonic.

Choral participation is open to everyone (regardless of your major) as well as community members! Choral auditions and placement hearings will take place Aug. 25-27 (Sun-Tues). Please take time to review the following information about the new audition process. Check out the audition sign-up page for additional audition information.

Sign up for either a Sunday, Aug. 25 or Monday, Aug. 26 audition. Finalists will be invited for a Chamber Singers callback on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 12:30-2 p.m.

Ensembles

CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Chamber Singers
Coreen Duffy, conductor

The CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Chamber Singers—the university’s premiere choral ensemble—comprises graduate and undergraduate singers. This auditioned ensemble has earned critical acclaim for its performances, and sings classically based literature from all cultures and eras. Members are selected by audition at the beginning of each academic year.

CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ University Choir

This auditioned choral ensemble comprises undergraduate students from across campus and performs a wide range of choral literature. Founded in 1938 by the College of Music’s namesake and former dean, Warner Imig, the CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ University Choir’s traditions, performances and tours have received national acclaim in the United States and abroad.

CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Festival Chorus

This auditioned mixed voice choir consists of 50+ singers comprising music majors, non-music majors and community members. The CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Festival Chorus performs in College of Music choral concerts and with the CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Wind Symphony, CU Symphony and ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Philharmonic, and participates in the CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Holiday Festival. Music is selected from all historical style periods emphasizing choral masterworks with instrumental forces.

CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Treble Chorus

This auditioned collaborative ensemble is devoted to the study and performance of wide-ranging, voice-specific repertoire. The CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Treble Chorus performs on campus and in the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ area twice per semester.
