Undergraduate Scholarships and Enrichment Funds

Al Bartlett

Albert A. Bartlett

The Albert A. Bartlett Award in Physics was established in 2010 in honor of Professor Emeritus Al Bartlett. After earning a bachelor’s degree in physics from Colgate University, and a master’s and PhD in physics from Harvard University, Bartlett joined the faculty of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ in 1950.

The award is intended for undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Physics who are enrolled in a program that leads toward certification for secondary school physics teaching through the School of Education.

Dr. Barbara Abraham Shrauner established this scholarship in 2018 to support physics or engineering physics undergraduates in their junior year with a preference given to students who are active in the Women in Physics community at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.Ìý

The Herbert E. Bowman Endowed Scholarship in Physics was established in 2020 to support high-achieving juniors and seniors in physics and engineering physics.

The Jesse Kramer Endowed Undergraduate Travel Award was established in 2017 to support undergraduate physics and engineering physics students traveling to present their research at conferences.Ìý

John Wahr

Professor John Wahr

The John Wahr Endowed Memorial Award Fund was established in memory of Professor John M. Wahr. Professor Wahr was the first geophysicist to join the Department of Physics at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ in 1983. He was a prolific scholar, teacher and mentor for over 30 years in the Department of Physics. Revered for his commitment and kindness, his dedication to the sciences, his family, the outdoors, and music left an enormous impact on his students and colleagues. Professor Wahr had an outstanding research career and made seminal contributions to many areas of geophysics and geodesy.

The award was established in 2022 for graduate and undergraduate students in the Department of Physics who express an interest in pursuing careers in physics of the earth, planets, atmospheres, oceans, or space.

The Leon and Mitzi Shands Endowed Scholarship in Physics was established in 2005 to provide scholarships for nontraditional physics and engineering physics students.Ìý

Provides general support to the PhET Interactive Simulations project, a suite of educational simulations with supporting materials and services at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

Supports enrichment of undergraduate programs in the Department of Physics at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

The Quantum Scholars Program was established in 2022 as a partnership between the Department of Physics and the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Quantum Scholars supports undergraduates in physics, engineering and computer science with the aim to advance quantum education and workforce development through professional development, co-curricular activities, and industrial engagement. Scholarship support is a key component of the program to recruit and retain students interested in the quantum industry.

The Stephen Halley White Undergraduate Research Award was established in 2013 to recognize outstanding undergraduate research projects in physics.

The Steve & Mazie Armstrong Physics Scholarship was established in 2018 to provide scholarships for undergraduate students in physics, engineering physics, or astrophysics.Ìý

The Steven J. Greene Endowed Research Scholarship was established in 2019 to provide scholarship funds for undergraduate physics and engineering physics students that are engaged in research and are residents of Colorado.Ìý

The Thomas and Brenda Kirk Endowed Scholarship Fund for Physics was created in 2016 to provide support for undergraduate students in physics, engineering physics, and astrophysics.

The Thomas Bliska and Gray Boyce Endowed Student Support Fund in Physics was created in 2021 to provide undergraduate scholarship support to students majoring in physics or engineering physics, or graduate fellowship support for physics PhD students.

Uriel Nauenberg

The Uriel Nauenberg Endowed Undergraduate Research Travel Award was established in memory of Professor Uriel Nauenberg to support undergraduate physics and engineering physics students who are traveling to present their research at a conference.ÌýÌý

Uriel Nauenberg was a long-time professor of physics at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Professor Nauenberg was widely recognized for high-energy research and undergraduate teaching. He also contributed substantially to service at the University, twice serving as Chair of the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Faculty Assembly. Professor Nauenberg was awarded several prestigious awards from the University including the Hazel Barnes Prize and the Robert L. Stearns Award.

Graduate Fellowships and Support

Provides graduate scholarship awards to students in the Department of Physics in the College of Arts and Sciences at CU ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Support includes tuition and costs, support for research and learning, educational experience, and professional development.

Provides fellowship awards in the Department of Physics at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Preference given to students who represent the spirit of Deborah Jin. Recipients represent the spirit of Deborah Jin by serving their community or family and breaking barriers for underserved or underrepresented populations in the larger physics community.

The Infleqtion Graduate Fellowship (formerly ColdQuanta) was established in 2021 to provide fellowship support for graduate students pursuing PhDs in the Department of Physics.

Provides support for an annual fellowship for graduate students in the Department of Physics at the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ.

Funds fellowships for Physics Graduate Students in memory of Jing Yin and Ethan Townsend.
