CU Historian Patricia Limerick To Give Public Lecture May 7 On 'The Rise Of Regret In The West'

Renowned historian Patricia Nelson Limerick of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will give a public lecture May 7 titled "The Rise of Regret in the American West: How to Tell Meaningful Action from Pointless Wallowing." The talk is part of the Chancellor's Community Lecture Series and will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Chautauqua Community House at 900 Baseline Road in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. The talk is free and open to the public and reservations are not required. Seating is limited.

CU Selected To Build $2.5 Million Worth Of Electronics For Satellites To Analyze Earth Space Storms

Two University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ faculty members have been selected to design and build $2.5 million worth of electronics for a fleet of five satellites to study violent magnetic activity around Earth that triggers auroral storms at the poles.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Law Professor Receives Calhoun Public Service Award

The CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ School of Law will present law Professor William Pizzi with the Clifford Calhoun Public Service Award on April 25 in recognition of his contributions to the law school and the legal community. The award is given to those who "contribute to the public service of the law school in the spirit and tradition of the contributions Professor Calhoun made in his career." An anonymous donor established the award in 1998 in honor of Calhoun, who retired that year.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Entrepreneurship Program Ranked Among Top 20 In Two National Rankings

The CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ entrepreneurship program was ranked 10th in the nation by faculty from around the country and 14th overall, according to Entrepreneur magazine's April 2003 edition. This was the magazine's first ranking of the 100 top entrepreneurship programs. More than 700 entrepreneurship programs nationwide were evaluated for the study. The rankings were based on more than 30 criteria, including course offerings, faculty, business-community outreach, research centers and institutes, advisory boards, off-campus programs and degrees offered.

'Operation Media Freedom' To Be Held At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ April 21-25

Media studies students in the School of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ are staging a weeklong campaign titled "Operation Media Freedom" April 21-25 on the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus. According to organizers, the events are designed to inform and educate CU students and the ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ community of the impacts of mainstream media on popular culture and coincide with National Turnoff Your TV Week.

"Em Bed With the Military: The Media at War" is the subject of a panel discussion at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ on April 24 at 7 p.m. in Engineering Center room 245. Scheduled panelists are Charlie Brennan, Rocky Mountain News reporter and embedded journalist who recently returned from Iraq; Vicky Sama, former CNN producer; Michael Tracey, former head of the Broadcasting Research Unit at the BBC in London and faculty member at CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's School of Journalism and Mass Communication; and Juliet Wittman, a reporter for Westword.

Fiske Planetarium To Present Highlights Of Cassini Mission To Saturn On April 25

The staff of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's Fiske Planetarium will present the latest news about the Cassini spacecraft's mission to Saturn on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. After a seven-year journey, the spacecraft is scheduled to arrive at the planet in July 2004. Staff from the planetarium will show the latest pictures from the Cassini mission and answer questions about Saturn. The Sommers-Bausch Observatory also will be open for visitors to view Saturn, weather permitting.

Morris Dees To Give Free Lecture In ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ April 18

Attorney Morris Dees' presentation, "Tolerances: Has America Progressed?" will take place at the Flatirons Theater on the Hill at 7:30 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
