The University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ has been awarded a four-year, $2.2 million grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to strengthen the institution's highly successful Biological Sciences Initiative.

Matthew Lopez-Phillips Named Director Of Judicial Affairs At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ

Ron Stump, vice chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ, has appointed Matthew Lopez-Phillips as director of the Office of Judicial Affairs. The appointment has been approved by Chancellor Byyny and is effective immediately. "Matthew possesses the skills and background to be a very successful director," Stump said. "Of most importance, he has judicial experience with our residence halls, the campus-wide system and at other universities. I expect him to build strong working relationships across the campus."

The Physics Of Breathing To Be Discussed July 15 At CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Lecture

The functioning of human lungs will be explored during the July 15 lecture "The Physics of Breathing" at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. Ka Yee Lee, an associate professor of chemistry at the University of Chicago, will present the free public lecture at 7:30 p.m. in Duane Physics room G1B20 on the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus. She will use videos, photographs and overhead projections to show the audience the basics of how a lung functions -- sort of an "under the hood" look at the human lung.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Professor Receives Fulbright Grant To Bulgaria

Richard Kraft, professor emeritus of the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's School of Education, has received a Fulbright Senior Specialist grant to the Shouman University In-Service Teacher Training Department in Bulgaria. While in Bulgaria, Kraft will conduct seminars with various experts, conduct a workshop with teacher trainers and provide consultations on individual projects.

CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Professor Selected As Scientist On Astrophysics Spacecraft Mission Team

University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Professor Michael Shull has been selected to be a co-investigator on a NASA space mission to map the cosmic web of hot gas that spans the universe. The spacecraft, known as the Spectroscopy and Photometry of the Intergalactic Medium's Diffuse Radiation, or SPIDR, is one of two "Small Explorer" satellite missions announced yesterday by NASA. The second was AIM, a satellite that will look at polar mesospheric clouds. CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will design and build two of the four instruments and control the AIM satellite from campus.

Four Top Executives Join Leeds School Of Business Real Estate Advisory Council

Four prominent real estate professionals have joined the University of Colorado Real Estate Council, or CUREC, a part of the Leeds School of BusinessÂ’s Real Estate Center. The new members are Edward N. Barad, Peter W. Grosshuesch, Chester T. "Chetter" Latcham and Kimra Perkins. CUREC consists of members from diverse disciplines in the real estate industry. Members play a key role in helping students supplement their education with professional experience.
