Fiske Planetarium at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will explore the red planet during "Mars Quest," Friday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 p.m. at the planetarium. The pre-recorded show examines the history of humankindÂ’s exploration of Mars, glancing in at the planet from space and exploring its surface. The show also delves into the question of life on Mars.

More than 5,000 parents and families of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ students are expected to attend the annual Fall Parents Weekend to be held Oct. 27-29 on the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ campus. The event draws parents from around the United States and from several foreign countries. For the first time parents and families are able to register online over the Internet, which will account for approximately half of all registrations this year, according to Leasa Weimer, director of parent relations.

WHO: University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ student volunteers will assist ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s Community Food Share at MunsonÂ’s Farm, east of ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ. WHAT: A community service project for members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, who will glean surplus pumpkins for Munson Farm to help feed needy residents in ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ County. WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 8 a.m. WHERE: Corner of 75th Street and Valmont Road, MunsonÂ’s fresh vegetable stand.

David Hurst Thomas, curator of anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History in New York and one the nationÂ’s best-known archaeologists, will speak at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ Oct. 27 on his controversial book, "Skull Wars." Sponsored by the CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ anthropology department and funded by a department alumnus, the Sixth Annual Distinguished Archaeology Lecture will be held at 8 p.m. in room 270 of the Hale Science Building. The free public event, which coincides with CU Parents Weekend, will be followed by a reception.

The University of Colorado Student Union, in conjunction with the University Hill Neighborhood Association, will sponsor a neighborhood cleanup and social on Sunday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The meeting area for participants will be the University Hill parking lot located at 13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. "This is a time to get to know one another and break down barriers to form a stronger, safer community for everyone," said Amanda Breeden, UCSU Community Relations director.

Running lizards, rats, dogs and people will highlight the CU Wizards show "The Biology of Muscles and Movement," Saturday, Oct. 28, at 9:30 a.m. in Cristol Chemistry and Biochemistry, room 140.

United States officials today announced the release of an Arctic Meteorological and Climate Atlas, which contains some previously restricted U.S. and Russian data, at a meeting of the Arctic Council in Barrow, Alaska.

Gary Jacobs, executive vice president and founding investor in Broomfield-based Corporate Express Inc., today was awarded the 2000 Dean's Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence by CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ's College of Engineering and Applied Science. In making the award, Dean Ross B. Corotis said Jacobs' "exceptional leadership and innovations epitomize the goals of the comprehensive, technologically based education found in our countryÂ’s leading engineering colleges."

The Center of the American West at the University of Colorado at ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ will host a mock divorce trial between the rural and urban West on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Fort Collins. The program will be held from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Stuart St., and is sponsored by Common Ground - The Urban/Rural Connection, an organization that promotes sustainable communities. The event is free and open to the public.

The CU Board of Regents announced today that Woody and Leslie Eaton have donated $5 million toward the support of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ’s new Humanities Building at the College of Arts and Sciences. "This is a tremendous commitment in support of CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ and the College of Arts and Sciences," said Chancellor Richard Byyny. "WeÂ’re very appreciative of this gift and what it means for the new Humanities Building, as well as for the college. The EatonÂ’s loyalty and generosity to CU-ºù«ÍÞÊÓƵ is a great example to us all."
